Journal Entry Song
Watching the animals eating each other
waiting for supper
what's on the tv
some nature program
makes me feel queasy
it’s Charlton Hesston
he sounds like God
he says Mother Nature
has no remorse
a cheery thought
he says
the nile crocodile
is a strange animile
he only eats
but once and a while
and when he does
it must be meat
and he wolfs it all down
from the head to the feet
he’s a good crocodile
chorus
and the grunts and the grows
and the hoots and the howls
we wince at the sounds
it’s me and my brother
waiting for supper
watching the animals
eating each other
supper’s ready
momma says
take your seats
be good boys
eat your meat
the monkey in the tree
he’s as happy as can be
as he tortures a banana
he wants everything he sees
and he sees a ripe papaya
that’s fallen on the ground
but he doesn’t see the tiger
that waits without a sound
he’s an X curious george
be careful if you pass
there’s a snake in the grass
and he hasn’t had a meal
since the month before last
and his eyes are always
bigger than his gut
he can open up wide
and swallows you up
he’s a hungry snake
chorus
tyrannosaurs rex
was a mesozoic pest
he had a beggars banquet
and he ate up all the guests
but then one day
he was chasing down some prey
and he fell into a tar pit
now he’s stuck in LA
with the other dinasaurs
it’s time to move along
and finish this song
and sit down to supper
but something is wrong
what’s she been cooking
out in the kitcheon
it doesn’t smell right
and rover is missing
she says it’s roast of beef
chorus

Man I haven't heard someone like you since Peter Cotton tail moved out of the warren and into the barn. You got a style all your own and to my ears it reminds me of running through the old carrot patch back home. Hope I see you soon again at the Renaissance. I'll even bring along my hairless ape and maybe I'll get him up to do some playing
