We will be developing the help section here with FAQ's etc.
Coffeehouse Friends
Our new section provides friends of Coffeehouse artists to be included in the creative process and social networking. Friends have their own photo album, journals and messaging. We will soon have RSVP's turned on so that artists and friends can see who plans to attend the various Coffeehouse shows.
Social networking has never been this much fun.
Stay tuned for more developments.
Doorchimes!!!!! What? Where? When? How? and Why?
Doorchimes are your best friend. A little annoying at first but later a revelation.
Doorchimes are emails that are triggered when a visitor comes to your page. Since the web has been here for ten years now, it's a classic that web page owners lose interest with there websites or pages within months. The romance dies fast.
Why?
1. Your page didn't stop world hunger, you still have to wait on yourself, your love life and fortunes haven't changed either. Yet!
2. you yourself got bored with it fast.
3. you like most people will presume nobodys visiting much.
4. your life has seemed to change much at all.
For example: a good friend and artist Gerry LeBlanc after a few months, figured out how to immediately trash his doorchimes. He stopped seeing them. Later he said to me, "nah, nobody is visiting much any more" he said with a slightly dejected tone. I told him that's not true. Back then I was the system admin and I was copied on every doorchime from the site. Back then we only had 50 artists and so I scanned the doorchime messages to keep track of site activity. I told Gerry he had 10 visitors that very day!
Time an again this type of story illustrates how we have a somewhat pessimistic outlook on the attention we actually receive. Doorchimes defeat this outlook and I more often hear people say, "wow, I can't believe people are actually visiting my page even at the strangest hours. "
And it's true. "Yeah, but how do we deal with this email onslaught?"
Rules, baby. The universe works by them. In this case, 'Message Rules'.
A) For outlook users, simply create a new Folder in your email program and name it 'my doorchimes'.
B) Then in your Inbox, select a doorchime. 'right click' with your mouse and choose 'create rule'. Follow the instructions and make sure you choose to 'From: doorchimes@coffeehouse.ca' as well as 'Move email to folder' and select the 'my doorchimes' folder. Click OK and your done.
C) Sit back and watch the 'my doorchimes' folder as the number of messages increases quickly. Once every month or so, delete the contents. Some may say that a 'site stats' reading would be helpful, but trust me, nobody likes reading spreadsheets. Doorchimes are easy and effective.
