Coffeehouse Cabaret Resurrected......Where Is Everyone?
Valentino Assenza
Well it looks like that there is a resurrection in progress but only a few people to witness it. Strange....that is what my religion is entirely based on.....I wonder if this whole Coffeehouse thing could turn into a religion again? Remember it was, for awhile? At least for some of us?
So yes, Michael Marian has succeeded in getting a WICKED venue on the Danforth, TKO's Sports Bar @ 1602 Danforth...North East Corner of Coxwell and Danforth, all you have to do is go to Coxwell Subway Station and stumble and you're there, or you can stumble from the bar back to the station your call. The point is ladies and gents, there is a new venue for the Coffeehouse Cabaret, and it's a cool one too. I know that you artist types are thinking "Sports bar? You can't be serious? I am an artist, I don't want anything to do with sports?" But if you give it a chance and head to TKO's and walk up the stairs you'll see a very cool, and intimate venue condusive both spoken word, and music, and whatever else Coffeehouse aspires to be about. Also there is a fairly...

Everything a man needs to know...
Pat Kelly
" Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honour, courage and virtue mean everything ; that power and money ... money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this.... that love....true love never dies ! Remember that boy ... remember that. Doesn't matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things , because those are the things worth believing in...... got that ? " Hub McCann (excerpt from "Second Hand Lions")

New Video For SVO Classic
Pat Kelly
Just released on YouTube is the new video for the Pat Kelly classic song "Freedom".
Written by songwriters Pat Kelly and Michael Miland, this song always came with a message of hope and unity. Kelly's words/melody and Miland's instrumentation sum up generations of feelings, actions and transformations within the United States in regards to the Civil Rights movement. He reminds us that it started way before we heard the names of those that helped change what was wrong in America.
The song was recorded with Kelly’s 9 piece Sweet Vibe Orchestra by Alphie Dipucchio and produced by Dipucchio and Kelly.
The SVO was made up of some notable Coffeehouse members: Jeff Burke (bassoon/ penny whistle), The Kindly Ones (bass, mood guitar), Laura Fernandez (piano, b.vox), Kevin Stock (guitar, b.vox), Bri-Anne Swan (b.vox), "Sweet Guitar" Will Martinov (electric guitar), MOESCH (guitar, b.vox), Jeff Kahl (percussion) and Matthew "Animal" Pearson (drums) and Michael Katz, (harmonica)

The End Of An Era Comes With The Close Of The Renaissance Cafe
Valentino Assenza
I wonder if anyone reads these discussion forums anymore,....there used to be some heated discussions here...it's been quiet for awhile.....hmmmm....oh well nothing like a loudmouth to bring up a subject.
So, after all of these years, are you getting into a limo to go from point A to B? Is there a horde of paparazzi following you around wherever you go? Are you waking up with a hankering for pork chops and apple sauce and calling down to your personal chefs on the horn?
Ah..I'm thinking no...but if you have a personal chef please invite me for dinner some time, you can bill me if you want. I guess my questions were in reference to our dreams and aspirations to stardom. For the nine year period that the Renaissance Cafe was open at 1938 Danforth, there were nights where we had those stardom visions of sugarplums dancing in our head, and for awhile with reference to sugarplums all over again it was pretty sweet.
We can spout whatever criticisms we want about the Renaissance Cafe. It was small, too far east, but in the end for nearly a decade this was a place where those of us that...
